Peter Hawker in a trip from Longparish, Hampshire to Exeter - 7 January, 1811
from Journal entry, 7 January 1811, page 22:
At four in the morning got into the mail, and at eleven at night reached Exeter. Had a delightfully jolly party, and, not being post day, the mail stopped whenever we saw game, and during the journey I killed 4 partridges. When it was too dark to shoot, our party mounted the roof, and sang choruses (while I joined them and drove), and in which the guard and coachman took a very able part.
