17th [Aug.].—Having now done what business I had here, and prepared to start for England again, I shall just memorandum down a few short remarks as to the changes that have taken place since I was last in Paris.

Amusements: French opera rather improved. Italian opera rather fallen off: their band, which I thought the best I ever heard, is now no more than equal to that of our opera.
