Notes
Shortly after being enslaved and a brief period in England, Equiano, a boy of around 11 years old, was bought by a British Naval officer Michael Henry Pascal with whom he served aboard ships in the Seven Years’ War in France, 1756-1762, and then in 1763 was resold to a previous owner, Robert King, in Montserrat. Equiano worked on trading ships in the West Indies and mainland and coastal American colonies 1763-1766.
