The famous Italian castrato singer that Newdigate describes was probably Carlo Maria Michelangelo Nicola Broschi, stage name Farinelli. He first performed in London for the 1734/35 opera season at a theatre in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, hence the letter, dated 1733 in the source, is more likely to be March 1735.
