Charles E Halle - mid 19th Century
from Life and letters of Sir Charles Hallé; being an autobiography (1819-1860) , pages 142-143:

Halle] do indeed possess ; my childish ears were made familiar with the noblest creations of Beethoven, Schubert, and Bach before I left my cradle, and as my childhood and boyhood owing to delicate health were spent at home, music was the daily accompaniment of my life.
