Alexander Mackenzie in Sondershausen - 1885

from A Musician's Narrative , page 140:

My early acquaintance with the opera at Sondershausen and its first performances in London were of interest to him. My recollections are of a very handsome studio containing a large organ, on which he improvised; in the middle of the room a writing-table with a small pianoforte keyboard attached, and a tiny, dark bed-closet used by him in order not to disturb the household by his habit of rising early to work.
