Ned Rorem in Marlboro, New York - 29 July, 1978

from The Nantucket Diary of Ned Rorem 1973-1985, page 34:

Casals master class. Flanked by a lustrous spouse, who with the muscular tenderness rises occasionally to tune her husband's instrument, the Maestro attends young cellists during a heat wave. Boys don't interest him, yet to one bonnie lass (Sharon Robinson) he suggests with a chuckle, "Play more like a man." (Subdued hisses.) To pianists - the "accompanists" - not one word, as though Schumann's keyboard were a mere backdrop.
