Johann Strauss in Berlin - December, 1827

On rising from table the King spoke with me for at least half an hour; then Strauss was addressed and drawn into the conversation. He having remarked that the Kyric performed that morning had struck him as particularly fine, the King rejoined, ' The words too are fineāfull of meaning ; but many
people do not desire that the Lord should have mercy upon them.'
