*Though the BBC relayed Act I of this performance live from Covent Garden - with Frida Leider (Isolde), Maria Olczewska (Brangane), Herbert Hanssen (Kurnewal) and Lauritz Melchior (Tristan) - Britten seems to have abandoned his listening thanks to Beecham's conducting of the Prelude.
