Ned Rorem in Maine - 20 March, 1985
from The Nantucket Diary of Ned Rorem 1973-1985, pages 549-550:
The Organ Concerto uses only four brass, timpani and strings. It sounds exactly as I prayed it would. The rehearsal went smoothly, commencing almost the minute we got off the plane Sunday. Leonard Raver knew his part cold, and Bruce Hangen, the dashing conductor, led the band enthusiastically in the overly live hall, almost drowning out the historic solo instrument.
