Shirley Gabis Rhodes Perle et al. in New York - 12 November, 1985
from The Nantucket Diary of Ned Rorem 1973-1985, page 602:
With Shirley to Argento's Casanova. Now worse, en fin de compete, that the Henze and Eaton operas last summer, though a good deal vulgarer. Argento's weakness is Henze's too: given their "accessible" style, they have no tuneful gift to burnish it.
