Ned Rorem in New York - 28 April, 1986
from Lies: A Diary 1986-1999, page 20:
David Del Tredici's huge Alice thing yesterday. Yes, it is about length - if cut, it wouldn't work, in all its tedious splendor. Yet length is its undoing. Nothing much really happens in the piece. The tunes are good, but they don't modulate or (despite DDT's contention) develop.
