Ned Rorem in New York - 18 December, 1986
from Lies: A Diary 1986-1999, page 57:
At 9 A.M., during calisthenics, tuned in radio a split second after Ravel's Trio had commenced, and realized within another split second that things were askew... Here now, this morning, the mysterious piece was being interpreted to within an inch of its life, much too slow, très senti. An obstinate masochism made me stick it out. 'Twas the Beaux Arts Trio.
