Ned Rorem in New York - 22 February, 1987

from Lies: A Diary 1986-1999, page 65:

Afternoon at American Composers' Orchestra with Morris. The four pieces, conducted with cogent vitality by John Nelson, were worth it: Loeffler, William Kraft's Timpani Concerto (just long enough), Hugo Weisgall's early A Garden Eastward (opulently blooming and good diction), and Christopher Rouse's more than rousing Gorgon (twenty minutes of shrieking four-four).
