Ned Rorem - 29 November, 1988
from Lies: A Diary 1986-1999, page 140:
Premiere Thursday riddled with errors. Lenny had decided to repeat the end of the fourth movement after the closing fifth movement so as to have "a rousing finale". Sounded like the concession that it was, and the orch. played it twice too slow. Other faulty entrances.
