Benjamin Britten in Lowestoft - 16 January, 1935, at night
from Journeying boy : the diaries of the young Benjamin Britten 1928-1938, page 243:
Dreadful journey back - running out of water, in the thick fog. However a good dinner, and the Mahler gram. records (Kindertodtenlieder) restores my faith in life.
When F.B. conducts the chief advantage is to be able to listen to the music without bothering about the interpretation. The shows are always 'just right'.
