...after which hearing that the Cathedral service began at 4. in the afternoon, which kind of service I had then never heard (except perhaps when quite a child at St Paul's) I was fix'd at the choir door soon after the bells began chiming & waited with great anticipation 'till the chanting began, with the solemnity of w'ch I was much affected & highly delighted; & the chant then used, tho' a common one, made so great an impression upon me, that it not only ran in my head for some days afterwards but to this day, I well remember it.... the Cathedral, organ etc. so occupied my mind for some time… more >>
