Benjamin Britten in Royal Albert Hall - 19 June, 1930

from Diary of Benjamin Britten, June 19 1930, pages 37-38:

I go to College at 10.0. & have a writing exam (Pt. Song, Scherzo, modulations to write) from 10-3.0 with break for lunch at Barkers with Mummy 1-2. & oral from 3 - 5.30 (I was in room with R.V. Williams, John Ireland, & Waddington (?) for about 1/2 hr.). After that I have surprise of winning comp. Inspite of the 2 brilliant others in final (5 altogether in it), including Alec Templeton, a blind boy. In evening Dinner with Barb. & Mummy at Hotel, & then with Mummy go to a marvellous performance of Hiawatha at Albert Hall. Perfectly glorious singing staging, & ballet.
