Nathan Milstein in Moscow - the 1910's

from From Russia to the West : the musical memoirs and reminiscences of Nathan Milstein, page 47:

I’ll never forget the golden sound of Persimfans’s first trumpet, Mikhail Tabakov. He was small and plump, and when he played he puffed up and turned red. But his horn’s song was radiant, glowing and at the same time tender. The other musicians of Persimfans were comparable artists.
