On field-days when such works as the Symphonie Fantastique, Harold in Italy, Mazeppa or Tasso were given, a goodly number of critics from Leipzig, Berlin, etc., were among the audience. In a very wide space, surrounded by woods, the covered orchestra was placed. On the stroke of three o'clock our gorgeously-attired Hof-Marschal von Wurmb (typical Court autocrat of the period) raised his long, gold-knobbed staff of office to announce the coming of the Fürst and his party, which was then solemnly conducted by him to an elevated pavilion.
