In a very wide space, surrounded by woods, the covered orchestra was placed. On the stroke of three o'clock our gorgeously-attired Hof-Marschal von Wurmb (typical Court autocrat of the period) raised his long, gold-knobbed staff of office to announce the coming of the Fürst and his party, which was then solemnly conducted by him to an elevated pavilion. The illustrious family could never have heard the opening bars of the first pieces, as the music started promptly at the signal, when they were still some distance away. << less
