Alexander Mackenzie in Birmingham - 1885

from A Musician's Narrative , page 132:

Sarasota's approval and acceptance of my Violin Concerto had now to be secured, and to it I owe the beginning of a friendship which lasted until his death in 1907. His MS. part propped up on the mantelpiece, we ploughed through the first reading with few stoppages. "Je suis myope," was his only excuse for crying a halt, sight-reading being amazing and technical difficulties non-existent.
