Christine Nilsson had been about eight years before the public when I first heard her in 1872 at Drury Lane in “Robert le Diable"; and her impersonation of Alice— the favorite role of her renowned country-woman Jenny Lind— shone resplendent amid a constellation of stars that included Mongini as Roberto, Gardoni as Rambaldo, Foli as Bertramo, and lima di Murska as Isabella.
