In the evening to The Merchant of Venice.  She had got tickets on our theory of always seeing Shakespeare - only in the hall did we realise it was a performance by the W.I. [Women's Institute]...But the sweet music nearly finished the audience - squawking and squeaking recorders, probably the nearest we shall ever get to hearing the music at The Globe.
