The first woman, who made also her first appearance in this opera [Demofoonte], was Bernasconi, a good musician, and correct skilful singer; but her voice was not powerful, and she was past her prime: she was a good actress, with but an indifferent figure. The tenor, a German, named Ademberger, had a disagreeable nasal voice, but sung with considerable science.
