The memories mingle in a kaleidoscope of images and music. The Kirchin Band - largely forgotten these days but for a while one of the wildest outfits around, operating in the Dizzy Gillespie big band tradition - played in the city on the same day that Tottenham Hotspurs had played Newcastle United at St James' Park.
