Richard Edgcumbe in England - at the end of the 1780's

from Musical Reminiscences: Containing an Account of Italian Opera in England, From 1773. The Fourth Edition, Continued to the Present Time, and Including The Festival in Westminster Abbey., page 53:

She [Madame Mara] next revived an opera of Sacchini, called Perseo, which had been produced in the time of Millico and Miss Davies, whose style of singing was much the same. In this too the first man’s part was performed by Babbini, of whom, notwithstanding the favourable report I had heard of him, I cannot say much in praise. He might be a good singer, as far as knowledge of music could make him one, but he was unequal to producing much effect, from the weakness of his voice, which it seemed a painful effort to him to exert.
