Marconi, an excellent singer and very genteel actress; but her voice was the deepest contralto of a female’s I ever heard […] If Marconi’s voice was too low for a prima donna, she would have been of infinite use to the theatre for contralto parts, and an admirable performer of male characters in the serious opera.
