Lowell Mason in Munich - early May, 1852
from Musical letters from Abroad, page 128:
Military music abounds here, and is very fine. One of the best bands I have heard (but not better than the one in Berlin), consisting of about forty instruments, including oboes, clarionets, bassoons, &c., plays daily at eleven o’clock; say an overture first, and then one or two pieces of lighter music.
