Maurice Ravel et al. in Theatre Gaîté Lyrique, Rue Papin, Paris - late May, 1921, at night

from Sergey Prokofiev diaries: 1 - 31 May 1921, page 604:

The piece [Chout] was an exceptional success among musicians. Ravel described it as a work of genius, Stravinsky as the single modern work he could listen to with pleasure. 'Les six'* spluttered with delight, although the appearance of Chout was a blow to them, representing something they ought to have done themselves but had not been able to. Larionov wittily and cruelly punned on the six-of-one-and-half-a-dozen-of-the-other nature of 'Les six'.
