Notes

David Attenborough was listening to the performance live in the Festival Hall, but the concert was televised by BBC2, and his account seems to draw on memories of both the live and the televised performance. He recalls the concert as being given by the London Symphony Orchestra, but other sources say that it was the New Philharmonia Orchestra.
