Henrietta Burkin in Sidley, near Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex - 1940

from Memoirs of Henrietta Burkin, page 56:

[The author moved to Bexhill after marrying Harry Burkin 25 October 1935, and their daughter Elaine was born March 1937. Her memoir includes detailed information about adjusting to the threat / reality of German bombing during World War II, and her husband’s absence after he was called up]

The Army were billeted in the Grammar School at the bottom of our garden, so there was plenty of activity, a tune on the saxophone sometimes. They weren’t so particular about their lights at night as we were!
