Well, last night was the completest failure.* Elbowed by the navy, numberless queer figures, and at eleven, in the midst of a dull rout, with scarcely any dancing-men, an impromptu was got up, and two reluctant, serious quadrilles performed to one or two squeaking instruments taken out of the band and playing out of tune.
