Mary Berry in Genoa - 26 December, 1816
from Diary of Mary Berry, 26 December 1816, page 115:
The theatre is open. The decorations and dresses fine; the music of the opera middling; the first singer, La Ronzi, tolerable voice, but no dramatic talent, anzi e garbata. The tenor, Menelli, pleased me best. The ballet, ‘La Vestale,’ detestable; an entrée ‘Dei grotesche,’ three men and two women, by far the most perfectly improper I have ever seen.
