Mary Berry in Rome - 28 February, 1821

from Diary of Mary Berry, 6 March 1821, page 295:

At half-past four o’clock we went to the Duchess of Devonshire’s balcony to see what was passing in the Corso. The scene was really curious and amusing. Groups of peasants, masked, were dancing in the Place to the sound of the tambourine played by other masks.
