I am just come from the funeral of Lafayette. It was in every respect as ill-managed, and as little imposing, as if it had been in England, et c’est beaucoup dire. […] The drums of the regiments were muffled; but there was much too little music, and what there was, was absolutely without any effect appropriate to the occasion.
