[B]ut e’er we parted from Glos’ter, we wou’d attend the cathedral service, which Mr O[sborn]. (who had been here some days) said was executed with due decency: but we knew not of the grandeur of our company, for here were assembled the judges, the sheriff, with all the prime nobility of the town; so we thought ourselves lucky to get stalls.

  A long service, and tedious sermon!  The singing was good, and some of the boys voices seem’d excellent.  The choir of Gloster Cathedral is lofty, and very beautiful; but the screen is bad and the altar-piece heavy: the whole church is well paved.
