from Diaries of Thomas Cairns Livingston vol. 6:

Wednesday 22 May, Terrific heat to day. Thundery like at night. Met my niece Lily in town, took her home with me. She had tea with Tommy & me (Agnes being at Clydebank) Agnes came in about 7 o’c we ate in the room and had a little music. I walked Lily home. Rain then came on so I took car back. Home 11.30pm.
