Thursday 19 December, Very cold day and very wet night. Tommy booked seats at City Hall for we two, Tommy & me so at night off we go like gentlemen & heard the Scottish orchestra, among other things, play the ‘Fifth Symphony’. Gave the kitchen mantle piece a touch of varnish when I got home.

The Scottish Orchestra, established in Glasgow in 1843 to accompany the Glasgow Choral Union, was the precursor ensemble to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The principal conductor when the Livingston listeners attended the concert was Vladimir Golschmann.
