O[rgan]. – Small, perfect - "in memoriam".
H[ymns]. – A Carol for Ascension and two others all finely sung - also a Processional.
C[hoir]. – Few but well trained, each one a sermon on good behaviour.
[The congregation numbered] 180 – The chairs are closely packed and all are worshippers. There were many Sisters. All the seats were free and the church was crowded.

M[iscellaneous]. – This is a perfect church, or, so I think.

Henry Croswell (1840–93) kept a record of his visits to churches in London over a period of more than twelve years (1872–85). He made methodical notes about the number of clergy, the churchmanship, the congregation, the sermon and the church architecture, as well as commenting on the music that he heard (the organ, the hymns and the choir).
