Irving and I went afterwards to the Ancient Music, where “I’d mourn the Hopes that leave me” was performed (the first time that anything of mine has presumed to breathe in this venerable atmosphere), and encored. From thence I went to Catalani’s concert, where, also (proud triumphs for Irish Music!!), the thing that produced most sensation was “The Last Rose of Summer,” on Nicholson’s flute[.]
