The “Friendly Gathering” this year was held on July 15, 1893, more choirs met, the rendezvous being Goodshawfold. This was a “Red Letter day” for the village. Our united choirs numbered some 450 persons, from far away places as Manchester, Bolton, Bury, Dewsbury, Rochdale, Haydock, Bacup, Haslingden, Ramsbottom, Accrington and a few others. An annual ‘friendly gathering’ of church choirs of the particular Baptist society had begun in August 1891, when choirs from Manchester and Goodshawfold met together to walk in the countryside and sing (see Listening Experience 1657883272536) The gathering grew rapidly in subsequent years until choirs from a very wide Lancashire area were involved.
