In 1788 he [Charles Dibdin] published a quarto volume, entitled “A Musical Tour,” and the next year commenced that series of monologue entertainments, which he continued to repeat during many successive seasons: first, at an auction-room in King Street, Covent Garden; next, near Exeter Change; and lastly, in a theatre, called the “Sans Souci,” which he had built in Leicester Street, Leicester Square. At this rational, amusing, and instructive school of song and music, I spent many pleasant evenings between 1796, when the theatre was built, and 1810, about which time the proprietor withdrew into retirement.
