D. (Dudley) Ryder in River Thames, London, England - 10 April, 1716

from The Diary of Dudley Ryder, 1715-1716 , page 216:

Diary entry 10 April 1716 We [went?] together by water. Cousin Watkins is a man that has no idea of good company unless there is singing and merry stories. So to singing he went and though a very bad voice would go on. Thus our journey passed away upon the water, with very little other conversation than what was about music and singing.
