Notes

It's not clear which of Rorem's two piano concertos he refers to here. The first concerto was withdrawn, see Grove 6. According to the Naxos CD8.559315, their 2007 release is the first commercial recording of Rorem's second piano concerto. Therefore, it is likely that the 'record' played to Entremont may have been Rorem's own private recording of the second concerto's Paris première of May 1954, with Julius Katchen, and the Orchestre de la Radiodiffusion Française conducted by Jean Giardino.
