Du Pré, Hilary, 1942- in London - 1958

from A genius in the family / Hilary Du Pré, pages 95-96:

Climbing the stairs in our flat I could hear the most glorious sounds coming from my room: the doors were ajar and Jackie and Mum were playing Brahms, in full flight. I was instantly paralysed and just wept. They were the angels singing from above and I had been consigned to hell.
