Ned Rorem in New York City - 17 February, 1994
from Lies: A Diary 1986-1999, page 243:
The stillness in the heart of New York. Last night I played through the unbearably gorgeous 5th movement of Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time, the Louange à l'éternité de Jésus, the slowest piece ever concieved, and relived my first experience of this music.
