Michael Kerr in Berlin - between the 1920's and the 1930's

Both my parents played the piano; there was a Bechstein grand. My father would strum the classics with more feeling than accomplishment; above all Schumann; the march of the Davidsbündler. But my mother would play for hours, humming her melodies, experimenting, always writing a score in pencil. Two or three of her tunes still come back to me.
