Lou Harrison et al. in Aptos - between mid February, 1967 and late February, 1967
from The Later Diaries of Ned Rorem 1961-1972, page 211:
To awaken at Lou's is to have the host approach your room at dawn from the other end of the house, tapping his instruments en route, first the distant chimes, then closer cowbells, then graduated silver gongs and triangles and ever louder blocks and cymbals and sky-blue windclocks are set in motion reverberating in chorus with the bobolinks outside, and finally a knocking and a human voice declaring that the sun is up.
