Listen to wireless (the hired portable taken away, & a hired electric one in its place - not so good) - Palladium Command perf. & Act II of Fidelio from Covent Garden. Cast as before - Voelker as Flor. & [Alfred Jerger] as Don Fernando. They follow the usual custom of playing Leonore 3 between scenes & irritatingly cut the exciting 1st Chorus of last scene. Personally, much as I love the ov. I don't want it there. They can change scenes pretty quickly nowadays. Beecham only competant. Irritatingly ungiving. Poor singers - like singing under an ill-balanced Metronome. But … more >>
