Apart from my own concert and recital, there were others given by glittering names which made these few days incredibly rich. I heard Mischa Elman perform the Mendelssohn Concerto – and wished I might somehow be able to jump in and play it in his stead: not that he didn’t play it beautifully, but in my youthful eagerness – or ignorance – I was sure I could play it more beautifully yet.
